ABOUT EXHIBITION
At the first exhibition in Art Agenda Nova, Paulina Lignar, a graduate of the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts, presents the latest paintings, which are artistic volatility in her work. Abandoning the „hopper” realism of cities, interiors, portraits, Paulina turns to the conceptual meaning of the work. Thus, on a smooth, one-color background, there appear light paper windmills, whose multiplicity of meanings, associations, ask the recipient a lot of questions, opens to him his private gallery of memories.
The artist focuses her attention on the issue of movement. His portrayal is an age-old challenge for artists – often they tried to find one proper way of signaling, even creating, as it was with futurists, a painting convention that was subordinate to him. Paulina Lignar presents us with three types of movement, three stories of struggling movement with painting material. Paper windmills on a smooth background – motion detained with a cord and bead. Transparent wall of mobile, rotating, shiny foils – joyful movement of light objects. Windmills against the sky, though attached to the canvas, seem to grab the image upwards.
Paulina Lignar’s paintings attract our attention, let us see more than we see every day.
Paulina Lignar about her project:
My windmills are made of paper. These on small, multi-colored canvases of multicolored paper for gift wrapping. Why? This, of course, is associated with a human being. As we all guess, we like to be surprised with various presents, just as we are different. Everyone has a different personality, different temperament. And the background is a reflection of the entire multilateral world. And this is my symbolism. A large canvas – in the sky the windmills in space, on the wire, also colorful. This time from smooth paper. So vice versa. I understand this: it happens that reality seems to reflect our desires, that is, if we dream something, we create cities and their contents, if possible. Then we are these colorful windmills, creators. But it also happens that the reality surprises us, sometimes quite tragically, as various catastrophes and is not stable as we would like. Then the background is colorful, monochrome and full of color bulges. Interchangeability. Once we, once nature. Once nature, once we.

Exhibited works by Paulina Lignar depart from the „hopper” trend; they are closer to conceptualism. On a smooth background, she placed colorful windmills that, through hidden meanings, ask a lot of questions and open the door of a private gallery of memories.
