About exhibition
All works at the Event Horizon exhibition have one common formula: the principle of duality.
Maria Schumacher's paintings and stop motion animation combine dichotomy and separation with the idea of unity. The moment of mutual communication and careful meeting leads through a funny subversion of form to the abstract possibility of the whole.
The Stop-motion animation "The Origin" was created as part of the residency program organized by the East of Art Foundation, in cooperation with the Municipality of Krakow, with the support of the Animated Film Studio of the Graphic Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
The Origin captures in a light and playful approach the physiological reactions during an intimate encounter.
Maria Shumacher
Maria Schumacher was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1983. She lives and works on a daily basis in Leipzig, Germany. She studied painting in the class of Neo Rauch and Heribert C. Ottersbach at the School of Visual Arts in Leipzig and took part in the Erasmus program at the National College of Art in Dublin. In 2011 she was a recipient of the Fulbright scholarship which was linked to a Master at the Institute of Fine Art in San Francisco.
Building compositions with crude cut out shapes, drawings and monotypes to create negative space, Schumachers large, bright, one shot process "action abstractions" implement a wide array of painterly techniques. These simple stark abstractions remain aloof to the self conscious act of painting, the distanced results of an almost mechanical action.
