Szymon Szewczyk is a collector. His practice focuses on intuitive searching for gaps in narratives. In his artistic imaginarium he places elements of non-Western culture, shreds of traces of the past, as well as elements reminiscent of the treasures of a spontaneous DIY enthusiast.Szymon builds his collection based on strategies of appropriation of found objects, with particular attention to preservation of their original contexts. Sometimes, however, he allows himself to do minor manipulations, seeking seemingly impossible connections. Is it possible to combine one line of an ethnographic object originating from Africa with the work of a constructivist artist? Where is the common point between imitating PRL's veneers with objects and rods referencing in their design for works such as Katarzyna Kobro? Meanings and meanings levitate on the verge of truth and bluff. Referring to the seemingly contradictory aesthetics - the art of avant-garde and DIY, Szewczyk outlines surprising configurations of influences, inspirations and connections.
