ABOUT EXHIBITION

Piotr Filupiuk - born on 1979, a fifth-year student of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow;

"I am interested in the condition of the present day, I am observing and portraying the everyday reality, and on the other hand I create it by manipulating its contexts: flexible combination of used media, or collision with each other in layered realizations, allows me to maintain a subjective attitude to reality."

Playground is a presentation of these works from the work of Piotr Filipiuk, in which the most important and characteristic motifs of his work focus. The concept of the exhibition was constructed on the basis of the title "playground", a playground in which the artist draws the viewer into the game he created and the idea was based on the artistic attitude adopted by Filipiuk. In his works, he balances on the border between fiction and references to reality. In his own way he reaches for history, duplicates and quotes culturally known paintings. He builds new narratives that connect with each other, subjecting more and more solutions.
Filipiuk carefully observes the surrounding reality and then assembles all elements into a completely new form. The material for further experiments draws from the closest environment as well as uses the general mechanisms that govern the current world. Sam, however, puts in the role of an observer, suggesting but not imposing his own interpretation. In his works, he uses the medium of a film because he sees in it a combination of two different and contradictory functions: an integral part of the world of Art but also one of the basic sources of pop culture.
The artist also tackles the very subject matter of the film or photographic film, which he transforms into a field for further experiments. In his works, they completely lose their original destiny - a visual guarantor of reality - to take a completely abstract form or become a kind of virus infecting in unexpected moments the "healthy" tissue of the film.
At the Filipiuk exhibition, after his own play with the works, he abandons them and allows viewers to play individually. It gives the opportunity to deprive an artistic object of seriousness and bring it to the role of toys. He avoids simple answers, surprises and persuades to look at works from different perspectives and encourages the reception of specific images through the prism of play. It also allows you not to take the challenge you are challenged with, but simply follow the lead tracks. There are no bad moves in his game.
