ABOUT EXHIBITION
We invite you to the first exhibition of paintings by Alicja Żebrowska, an artist with extensive achievements in the category of visual arts, who is known to the public and the international community of curators and art critics from multimedia activities. Recently, Alicja Żebrowska decided to take another important step, i.e. the implementation of painting on canvas. The exhibition will present the latest images from the "Infiltron Icon" series, referring to the famous "Infiltron" multi-channel video installation.
As the artist says: "The decision to return to classical visual arts was made in a very difficult, even traumatic moment of my life. Painting is for me discovering new aesthetic ranges in my work. I have always lacked real space in painting, which is why I try to use acrylic paints intended for very "flat" painting in a "spatial" way. I am looking for not only color, but also purely physical quality and possibilities of acrylic paint. A very important element is the content of the images, referring to the huge work "Infiltron", which I have been making since 1997 with Jacek Lichon, co-author. From the very beginning of the creation of "Infiltron", we assumed the use of all possible media to present our concept. A kind of sympathy and physical closeness, which later was not visible enough in movies or photos, inspired me to record the most representative scenes from our actions for me, on paintings or objects. The physical, tangible and continuous contact with the canvas to which the given scene is transferred is for me immortalizing this closeness and reliving it. Film strip is not marked by the physicality (touch, heat, sweat, tremor) of my hands. The frame under the brush transforms into an intimate relationship. "
Alicja Żebrowska was born in 1956 in Zakopane. A graduate of the Institute of Artistic Education of the University of Maria Curie-Skłodowska in Lublin and the sculpture department of the College of Applied Arts in Vienna. Author of graphics, sculptures, objects, installations, photographs, artistic actions of video, video - installations and synchronous projections. It is associated with the critical art stream. Together with Jacek Lichoń, they have been creating their own varieties of shareholding called "Infiltration" since 1997 as part of the "Infiltron" work. In 2013, she founded the Alicja Żebrowska Film Foundation, which supports and extends the artist's film and multimedia activities. Selected exhibitions of the artist: "Antibodies "(CCA Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw, 1995);" Anteprima Bovis "(MilanoEuropa2000, PAC Triennale, Milan, 2001);" When the Other Becomes His Own "(CCA Łaźnia, Gdańsk, 2002);" Egocentric, Immoral, Obsolete.
